CHEEZ IT!!!

So here's where I'm at with CHEEZ IT. The color is finalized-its classic cheez it red. I'm pretty much set on the logo type also. Its very similar to the original, but a little cleaner and more modern looking. This is just front layouts I haven't gotten to the back yet. It'll be simplistic like the front though. I'm going back and forth with this die-cut idea...let me know what you think.
This is my first version. The boxes have die-cuts shaped like an icon based on the flavor. So, for example original is the classic cracker shape, white cheddar is a cheese wheel, and hot & spicy is a pepper. I really like the idea and the look on paper at least. I'm just concerned it wont look as good when built and if a clear bag on the inside is practical.

This is another idea I had...originally  these cheese wedge shapes were die-cuts also. But as I said above, I had some concerns. So I had this idea of representing the crackers within the box in an abstract kind of way. The colors of the strokes are based on the flavor. So in a way its an "abstract die-cut" (does that make sense? haha) It came about as sort of a mistake, but I'm kind of liking the way this looks actually. It looks somewhat artsy and stylish, yet the cracker shapes are still fun and vibrant. Its much more minimalistic than the first. Do you think this looks good? or would the die-cut in this design work better....?

  1. I think both solutions work. I like the first one better because it's easier to distinguish the different flavors. As for the problem with the die cut and the way the crackers actually look in the bag.. I think you could do away with the die cut and just leave the icon with the photograph of the cheezits and it would still look good...

  2. For variation 1, have you tried work the design in a perfect square format? The elements are very centered and I think the rectangular shape gives it a sort of awkwardness. I love die-cut idea, and though it won't look as great as the comp, I don't think they'll look that different from the real deal. I think you should pick a contrasting color for the stroke rather than the orange you have, it'll help define the shape, and add more personality to the flavor as well as add a second way to distinguish the box.

The second variation is working too, but the open side of the cracker begins to look like a sharp, staple like shape. I like the looseness it brings to the design. I can see that it is supposed to look like a cheese wedge, but it begins to look like a pizza slice. Have you tried using the (for lack of a better way to describe it) pac-man shaped cheese you used for design one? Or does that get too messy with the linework?

    Looking good!

  3. I like both of the designs. They are looking great, especially the first one. I like the idea of the die cuts and those die cuts representing the flavor. That's clever right there. I think you should do those die cuts. If I was the customer, I would buy your product because of the design.

  4. i LIke the second version the die cut might have been and interesting way to go. But I think the image of the cheese wedge help it be more simple and sophisticated.

  6. I think the first version is better because there's more variation between flavors which makes them easier to identity from far away. I don't know why but the second version reminds me more of a pizza slice than a cheese wedge.

I like the logo, it's fun and playful, works well with the fun cut out shapes of the first version

  7. I like the first set. THe die-cuts are very fun-looking and I think they go well with cheez-it. I like how simple it is. Maybe you can try the vertical box with these die-cuts. I feel like there is a bit too much negative space on the sides.

  8. Great work! I like both a lot but I think the first one works better because of the die cut shapes you will have. The die-cuts will be a challenge but I think the finish piece will turn out really nice. Very clean and fun. Good stuff.

  10. Version 1 is working the best because of the distinctive graphics which easily separate the flavors. Like you were saying, the crackers won't be that well lit through the diecut but I think the photos you have there function just as good. Go with the vertical orientation to eliminate some of the extra negative space.

  12. Number one is my pick. Number two makes me think of pizza flavor. I like the Red background, it says "CHEEZ IT". It hard to tell with these pictures, but is your die-cut to close to Cheez It?

  13. i vote the first one it easy to spot. when in a hurry you can just grab it to go so you have no time to sort it out. So if it is set one you can just glance a little and see the shape. you will recognize it eventually and easy as that.great layout, color and typeface. nice work

  14. Both designs look appealing, yet it seems that they are missing something. It could simply be that you have so much free room around your design that it's almost aching for an extra line of type or some decorative element or something. Maybe it's just me! I definitely like the way you illustrated the cheese wedges in your second set. It's a fairly minimalist design focused around the product, which is a good way for a person to figure out what flavor they are getting right off the bat.

  15. I like first set... second set reminds me of pizza. I like how you made the die cut in the shape of what it is. I also think the shape is better on this design. My only problem is the type on the lower left corner. It does not really feel as if it belongs there. Overall, nice design.

  16. I think that you should go for the fun die-cut shapes because they'll be a hit with consumers. Maybe you should try a different type for your flavors. It doesn't look too appealing.

  17. I really like version I. The only thing I would change is the size of the die-cut. It is a bit large and it is almost touching the CHEEZ-IT label. By sizing it down a bit, I think it would also help with the stability of the box. =)
